HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Restaurants around the nation continued to see issues with supplies to run their business as usual. Two local restaurants, Murphy’s Wagon Wheel in downtown Hastings and Texas Roadhouse in Grand Island, had been dealing with these problems for months.

Both of the restaurants had truckloads of products coming in behind schedule and had some items they had ordered missing when the trucks arrived. Owner of Murphy’s, Jamison Murphy, said there was more to the supplying issue than shipments coming in on time or having unavailable products.

“Everything’s gone so much higher in price because of the demand of that item is there because what they were using before is way too high priced or they can’t get it,” Murphey said.

As a result of the heightened cost of products, Murphy said they had to shorten his menu as well as adjust the cost of the items to fit along with the extra money he was paying out of pocket.

Doug Schliefert, Texas Roadhouse managing partner, said he had noticed the same problems at his restaurant.

“I think that my industry has shifted from taking care of the customers to now, taking care of the employees and it’s scary for me because, that’s not why were here -- We’re here for the customers,” Schliefert said.

He added, he had been seeing issues with products such as to-go boxes, seasonings, steak, chicken, straws, alcohol and much more.

Schliefert said he was looking to see a change in the supplying issue in the near future.

“I would just be happy with it stabilizing, so that I don’t have to worry about opening my email on a daily basis, finding out what I need to go get locally and having second and third, fourth, fifth providers to get me something that I need for tonight,” he said.

Because of the product shortage, both Murphy and Schliefert said they both said they were having to let their customers down by telling them the item was unavailable.
