ADAMS COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Adams County roundabout turned one on Aug. 31, and looking back over a year officials are heralding its success.

The original purpose of the roundabout what to decrease congestion and speeding at the intersection of South Adams Central Avenue and Highway 6.

With a lot of inexperienced drivers on that stretch of road, it was paramount for officials to keep everyone safe and keep speeds low. According to Adams Central Superintendent Shawn Scott, the roundabout is doing just that.

“One year later, the roundabout has been great for our students. Just because of the safety factor. The kids have adjusted very well to the roundabout. So has the community around there. Its been a welcome edition and created a safer environment,” Scott said.

Adams County Emergency Management director, Ron Pughes said the round about has made for safer traveling through that area during all times of day.

“You know its been a huge benefit, you know the one Highway 6 has helped immensely with traffic. It has made it a much safer intersection and has proven, and has proven to be a much safer easier commute going through Highway 6 and Adams Central,” Pughes said.

Pughes also warned that during colder months it is important that people add time for travel and get to their destination safely.
