AURORA, Neb. (KSNB) - Both the Aurora boys and girls cross country teams competed in district races this past week in preparation for their respective State Tournaments this Friday.

The boys program won State in 2019 and finished in fifth last year.

“Stay calm, not worry about what other people think,” senior Isaac Bisbee said. “We’re just here to do our race and run to the best of our ability.”

The Huskies boys team finished second in this year’s district race, losing by just one point.

“I think that’s the necessary push that we need to go into State with a mental capacity to do our best,” Bisbee said.

Added sophomore Lucas Gautier: “It’s going to be a big push. We were really frustrated, like he said, about getting second by only a point and we’re just going to take that and do the best we can at State.”

As for the girls, they have not had as much State success in the last two seasons -- finishing 12th in 2019 and fifth last year -- but won their district race as a team.

“We all ran to our potential, so now that we’ve been able to do that, State should be really exciting,” junior Kaitlyn Oswald said.

Senior Elena Kuehner placed first individually at districts.

“I’ll definitely use it as momentum, however I know at State I will definitely have to work for it,” she said.

As for how the ladies from Aurora will fare in 2021?

“We’re easily going to be a top-5 team this year, but we’re going to have to work for it and we’re ready,” Oswald said.
