KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Ashley Keck has been a beaming Star among Kearney Catholic Stars on the volleyball court in her senior campaign.

One of just three graduating players on the roster, Keck has adopted a new role that she has found success in.

“Ashley has really developed into a good leader for us and has done a great job of getting our younger kids included and getting them confident in their abilities as well,” Stars coach Kris Conner said.

Added Keck: “It means a lot, honestly, encouraging them every point of the game, telling them it’s fine if they made a mistake. Trust me I’ve been there too. Going from freshman year to senior year, that’s a big thing and they’re all learning as they go.”

Now having qualified for the State tournament for the second year in a row -- this time as the No. 1 seed -- Kearney Catholic is on a revenge tour after being upset by then-No. 6 Lincoln Lutheran in the first round of the 2020 competition when they were No. 3.

“Everybody had a lot of confidence in ourself this year and I feel like that’s going to be a big part in us getting further in State this year,” Keck said.
