Fitness class geared to help people “Live Stronger”
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - If you are dealing with muscle weakness or bone loss and over the age of 50 then there’s a class specifically designed for you.
The class is called Live Stronger. It was created and is coached by physical therapists from Live Well Physical Therapy, and put on at Feel Fit Health and Fitness Club in Grand Island.
Live Strong Program Coordinator Nicole Thompson said they got the idea to fill this niche after noticing a lack of places for people to go after prescribed physical therapy ended.
Thompson said there’s this perception that as one gets older you can’t exercise any longer and she said that’s just not true, in fact she said members of the class have shown they are stronger than they realize.
“We’re starting to track so of their one rep max’s, what they are able to lift. And we are seeing for one, they are way stronger than they give themselves credit for. When we actually put them to the test, they can lift a lot of weight and do really well with good technique. But we’ve just seen some huge strength gains even in that time. So that’s really cool,” said Thompson.
Steven Miles, a Live Stronger member, said this class has changed his life.
“I have gained total flexibility and people tell me I walk better, I twist better, I bend better and move a lot better,” he said.
Miles encourages others to consider joining the class because the instructors will custom design a workout plan for them.
“You don’t have to do things to an extreme, so everybody is done on individual basis which is nice it keeps people active, it keeps your heart rate up,” Miles said. “It keeps you moving all of the time.”
The class is a membership class and it meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Feel Fit located in Grand Island.
