Hastings ‘Y’ inching closer toward fundraising goal for renovation project
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The YMCA is inching closer to their ‘Building What Matters’ campaign donation goal to expand and renovate their 16th Street facility. As of Friday, they were 79% of the way to their to the ultimate goal: $13.9 million dollars.
CEO Troy Stickels of the Hastings ‘Y’ said he was confident they’d reach the goal in a timely manner and that they were aiming to get the final donations in, in the coming weeks.
“If we can get done this year, really allows our architect and contractor to really push to get things going,” Stickels said. “And with the way things are with building materials, it’d be nice to be done and be able to know we’ve got all the money and we need to start ordering some things, just because it does take a long time.”
He added, having the facility being a big piece to the community made the donation process run a bit smoother. Stickels said the donations were going well, but were still searching for people to come forward and contribute to the project in order to reach their goal.
“The sooner we can get it raised, the sooner we can move onto the next phases of planning and moving forward,” Stickels said. “And we really need to start probably sometime in June with construction. If we don’t get it all raised by the end of the year, you know, January, February — we’d really have to push to get things so that we can get everything planned and ready to go.”
To make a contribution to the project, you can place a monetary donation on the Y’s website.
