KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Kearney Floral Co., the oldest flower shop in Kearney, is getting new owners.

Kearney Floral opened up back in 1907 and was bought by the current owners, Todd and Lois Thalken, back in 1990.

For more than 30 years, the Thalkens have owned the place, renovating and adding 7,000 square-feet to the existing structure.

They’ve loved keeping this town staple going but decided it was time to move on to their next adventure.

”The new owners will continue the traditions we’ve been carrying for years and we’ve really been working with them closely on making this happen in a way that’s for Kearney community for sure, because we’ve been a staple for so many years and also for the business itself, which is near and dear to our hearts,” Lois Thalken said.

The Thalkens said they cried many times and probably will some more but believe this 100-year-old business will be in good hands.

”We have incoming owners who know the industry so well. They’re very talented, they’re lovely people and again we know that they have their heart set on making sure Kearney Floral lasts another 114 years,” Lois Thalken said.

The new owners, who have owned the Divas Floral Shop in Kearney since 2012, will be taking over Jan. 1.
