GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Senior High girls are getting ready to wrestle the competition in their inaugural season.

But before they got the chance to compete school leadership needed to give them that chance, it wasn’t a hard sell for the leaders of GISH, they jumped at the chance to help even more student get involved in school activities.

“Schools for me is, we do things for kids everyday. And this is a great opportunity for our girls in our high school to have this opportunity, and when we had our first meet, we had 62 girls attended the first meeting,” GISH activities director, Cindy Wells said.

The girls on this team are on a mission to prove that girls can do anything their male counterparts can.

“I think that proves that girls can do whatever guys can do, and we work just as hard as the guys, if not more. We have just as much aggression, I think this proves that,” Co-Captain Sage Mccallum said.

The girls will open play for the first time in Nebraska City in just 16 days.
