AURORA, Neb. (KSNB) - It definitely wasn’t the ending the Aurora football team had in mind Monday in Lincoln.

Bennington cruised to the Class B State Championship with a dominating 42-14 win over the Huskies, but for a year full of unknowns in Aurora back in August, this year turned into a bit of a Cinderella run.

In fact, the team started 0-2 with a convincing 42-14 loss to North Platte in week one, which was followed by a loss to eventual Class B champ Bennington to the tune of 55-44. So, at 0-2, nobody could have predicted the Huskies would go undefeated the rest of the way into Monday night’s state championship game, and it had head coach Kyle Peterson proud of his team, but still left wondering what could have been.

“You want to celebrate so many things about what we accomplished this year,” Peterson said. “You know, this stings. We’ve been here before, and to make it to this game and to get beat again this year, it does sting.”

Aurora was one of just three teams from Central Nebraska to make it to their respective state championship game.
