HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Over the course of December, departments across the City of Hastings will host several holiday events.

The Hastings Public Library is organizing the following:

  • Dec. 1: Tales for Tails Winter Reading Program runs from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31.
  • Dec. 4: Family Gingerbread Day to kick off the Winter Reading Program at 2 p.m.
  • Dec. 15: Book Club meeting for “The Christmas Shoes” by Donna Vanliere at 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 18: Harry Potter Yule Ball with festive snacks, games, crafts and more, starting at 3 p.m.

PIXLab and craft events require prior registration at www.cityofhastings.org/departments/library.

The Parks and Recreation Department is organizing the following:

The Hastings Museum is organizing the following:

  • Nov. 19 – Jan. 2: Season of Light Holiday Planetarium Show that combines astronomy with holiday traditions. The shows run at 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays, and is free with admission.
  • Nov. 21 – Jan. 2: Festival of Trees – Come tour the holiday trees that were decorated by local nonprofit youth and adult clubs and learn more about them!
  • Dec. 11: Holiday Fun Day with games, crafts and photos with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $3 for members, and $9-11 for non-members. Tickets include a free showing of “The Year Without a Santa.”

Hastings Fire and Rescue is organizing the following:

  • Dec. 1 – 17: Present Patrol returns for another year at Station 1 and 2. Drop off new, unwrapped gifts for children at either location to help make the holidays bright!

The Hastings Police Department is organizing the following:

  • Dec. 1 – 17: The Police Department is also participating in Present Patrol this year. Drop off new, unwrapped gifts for children at the Hastings Police Department to participate.
  • Dec. 16: Shop with a Cop – Selected children will get the chance to go Christmas shopping with officers in this annual tradition. Monetary donations can be made to the Hastings Police Foundation and dropped off at the Hastings Police Department.
