GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Police Department honored four of their own officers on Thursday afternoon for going above and beyond the call of duty to save lives.

Three of the officers were honored for saving the life of a man after he had crashed. The three officer came upon the crashed vehicle while they were returning from training.

The other officer was awarded for his work to help stop the bleeding of a person until medical first responder could get to the scene.

All the officers say the awards were nice, but its not why they do the job.

“It means a lot, obviously its great to have a department that acknowledges when you do something like this. In my opinion its just normal operating procedure for me to do what I did,” Officer Jose Rodriguez said.

GIPD also honored two other staff members for their long service to the department.
