Man gets prison in downtown Hastings burglary case

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A homeless man was sentenced to three years in prison in connection with a burglary case involving the Shirt Shack in downtown Hastings.

Jorge Garcia-Irias, 24, was convicted of felony attempted burglary and felony terroristic threats. He also received 18 months probation after the prison sentence is completed.

Garcia-Irias was arrested after police caught him with two cash registers shortly after a break-in.

Garcia-Irias is also charged with felony terroristic threats and shoplifting in a separate incident which happened after he was mistakenly released from the Adams County Jail two days later. Court records show he stole a BB gun from a sporting goods store and was waving it at passing drivers. He was convicted on the terroristic threats charge and the shoplifting charge was dropped.
