Grand Island man arrested for DUI following hit-and-run accident

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man is in jail after leaving the scene of an accident Monday morning.

The incident happen just after 1 a.m. on the 1100 Block of W 3rd Street.

Grand Island Police said they responded to a hit-and-run accident, which involved a black pickup and two parked cars.

Police then followed a fluid trail from the scene of the accident leading officers to the 600 block of Broadwell Ave.

Officers found 48-year-old Brian Schleicher of Grand Island, as well as the Chevy Silverado he was driving with severe front-end damage.

Police said Schleicher admitted to the officers that he got into an accident somewhere on 3rd Street, and also said that he had been drinking at the bar until it closed.

Schleicher was arrested for DUI-Alcohol-Third offense and Leaving the Scene of a Personal-Injury Accident. He was transported to the Hall County jail.

GIPS said the first vehicle hit, a Hyundai Elantra, was a total loss.
