HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings Salvation Army handed out present to parents who need a little help this holiday season, they gave out the toys donated by the community to families in need on Monday.

Parents were able to come and pick out toys for their kids based off of age groups. Sandra Brandenburg helped set up the event at the salvation armies building in Hastings.

She said thanks to the community they have been able to provide everything from board games to bikes for area kids, the event has stood the test of time even remaining a float during the pandemic.

“Last year was COVID and we were unable to allow the parents to walk through the rooms and purchase or pick the toys for their kids and its still a little iffy this year but we are wearing our mask and doing what can to keep safe and its better for the parents they understand their children they understand what gifts they would like,” Brandenburg said.

In addition to all the other toys donated, one community member donated over 40 bikes to the present patrol according to Brandenburg.
