GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Central Nebraska Regional Airport has some good reasons to celebrate as the holiday season draws to a close.

The first reason for celebration is how smoothly the 2021 holiday season went. One of the biggest reasons for the smooth sailing at the airport is that the weather has mostly cooperated with flights coming and going.

Mike Olson with CNRA said that while numbers aren’t yet final he thinks this could be the best year they have had since pre-COVID.

“Its been very good, we haven’t seen passengers like this since December of 2019. I haven’t seen the final numbers yet obviously, we have another couple more days left, but I suspect we will have a very solid month of December,” Olson said.

Another reason for celebration is in the million dollar grant CNRA received from the federal aviation administration.

There is some guidelines as to how the money can be spent. It needs to go towards taxiways and runways and sustainability projects.

The insides of the airports can also benefit from the grant, for example terminals can also get updates.

CNRA is not the only airport that benefited from this grant in Nebraska. Kearney and North Platte also received million dollar grants to go towards improvements at their airports.
