GIPS to host school board workshops

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Multiple seats are up for election this year on the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education as terms will end for five members on January 5, 2023.
There’s one seat in Ward B, two seats in Ward A, and two seats in Ward C.
Ward A: Terry Brown, Dr. Dan Brosz
Ward B: Bonnie Hinkle
Ward C: Carlos Barcenas, Erika Wolfe
Following redistricting in 2021, the latest boundaries for the three School Board wards may be found HERE.
January 5, 2022 marks the first date patrons may file to run. Incumbents have until February 15, 2022 to file to run for reelection while non-incumbents have until March 1, 2022 to file.
If you want to learn more about being a Board of Education member for the district, GIPS is offering three informational workshops this month:
- Thursday, January 20 at Noon - Convention and Visitors Bureau, 201 West Third Street
- Thursday, January 20 at 6:30 PM - Stolley Park Elementary, 1700 West Stolley Park Road, Door 15
- Sunday, January 23 at 2:00 PM - Engleman Elementary, 1812 Mansfield Road, Main Doors
The free workshops are designed to provide an inside look into the roles, various committees, and details involved for active Board members. Those interested in potentially running for (re)election are encouraged to attend.
