GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The omicron variant of COVID-19 is now the dominant variant in the state and several omicron cases in the Tri-Cities.

Now the mission becomes getting people tested to determine how many cases of omicron there are.

Teresa Anderson with the Central District Health Department said the cold weather has been a challenge for testing.

She told Local4 that even though omicron appears to be less severe than delta, it is very easily transmissible.

“Delta we knew caused some very serious symptoms and landed people in the hospital who were not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated,” Anderson said. What we are seeing with omicron is that the symptoms are not as severe, however it spreads so quickly.”

Anderson went on to say that she expects there to be other variants of the virus to pop up before COVID is done with once and for all.
