HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - As you may know, the current moratorium on student loan payments has been extended to May 1. It was actually set to expire at the end of January, but due to the rise of omicron cases of COVID-19, the White House decided to extend the pause.
This comes as big help to Nebraska borrowers, who on average owe $28,684 in student debt. It’s actually 22% lower than the national average. However, with Nebraska student loan portfolios totaling $8.3 Billion, the extra 90 days is expected to provide much-needed relief to help offset pandemic-related financial hardships.
