GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Senior hosted their first-ever home bowling meet for boys and girls on Friday in a head-to-head with hometown rival Northwest.

The teams were sanctioned by the NSAA this year, which led the Islanders to creating the two high school teams.

“For us, our main goal is to qualify for State, if not win a State title,” GISH girls bowling head coach Brad Earnest told Local4 Sports. “We have a lot of kids that have bowled a long time and have some experience and we’re excited for them. I think all of the kids are excited to be a part of the high school and have it tied in with their high school team. They’ve showed great response with that and are excited to see where they go.”

The Islanders defeated the Vikings in their debut, 14-7.
