HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Addie Kirkegaard is officially a college athlete. The Hastings St. Cecilia senior signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Concordia University in Seward on Monday.

“I pretty much knew right away when I started looking at them more,” Kirkegaard said, per the Hastings Tribune.

Kirkegaard committed to the Bulldogs back on May 27 and put an end to her recruitment by signing the paperwork to join the program today. A multi-sport athlete, Kirkegaard also plays basketball for the Hawkettes, but volleyball is what she will play at the next level.

St. Cecilia qualified for the Class C-2 State tournament in 2021 as the No. 8 seed and fell 3-0 to Oakland-Craig, which ended Kirkegaard’s high school volleyball career. She will be joining fellow Tri-Cities volleyball star Ashley Keck out of Kearney Catholic at Concordia, as Keck signed her NLI with the Bulldogs back on Nov. 10.

In 2021, Kirkegaard was named first-team All-Tribland after registering 439 kills and 74 blocks on the season. Meanwhile, Concordia finished its 2021 campagin in the national quarterfinals for the second straight year and finished ranked sixth in the NAIA postseason coaches’ poll.

“I’m going to have to work my butt off to get to the point where I want to be,” Kirkegaard said. “But I’m really excited to see how far I can push myself to become a better player and what they’re looking for as a starter.”
