GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island is getting a new baffle system.

The wind storms of 2019 and 2020 caused significant damage to their current baffles.

The city weighed in on two bids for the renovation, before settling on lacy construction for a little more than $923,000.

That money will come from insurance payout from the damaged baffles and the food and beverage tax.

Todd McCoy with Grand Island Parks and Recreation told Local4 News the repairs are essential for hosting big events at the park.

“The main thing is it would limit our ability to host future large events,” McCoy said. “The baffles we do have now, they are they’re old basically in a condition that they could fail at some point.”

McCoy said the baffles are an important safety feature on any shooting range, that protect people from stray bullets.
