HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A public hearing is scheduled next week where plans will be discussed about building a horse racetrack and casino on the north part of Hastings.

There are two items on the Hastings Planning Commission agenda for a request to change zoning and to get a permit for the area north of Walmart and 42nd Street to make the project possible.

The planning commission will hold the hearing on Tuesday, January 18 at 4 p.m. in the City Hall Chambers.

This is the first step as the racetrack project would need approval from both the planning commission and the city council.

For people traveling near the proposed site, signs are already being put up in the area opposing the casino and racetrack there.

One sign reads: No casinos in my neighborhood. Great idea, but wrong location.
