BROKEN BOW, Neb. (KSNB) - Over the last four years, Broken Bow girls basketball has been paced by a familiar face in the community. Now in her senior year with the program, guard Kya Scott is achieving milestones.

“You can’t put a price tag on those four-year starters,” Indians coach Kelly Cooksley told Local4 Sports.

Scott is our Local4 5-Star Performer this week after she eclipsed the 1,000 point threshold in a 41-24 Dec. 28 win over Alliance at the Boone Central Holiday Tournament. She is just the second player in program history to score that many points in a career.

“I really didn’t know it was coming up, so when I scored my 1,000th point it was such a great accomplishment,” Scott said. “Everyone in the crowd got excited and I felt really good about it.”

Added Cooksley: “It’s kind of funny, in that game she only needed four points. And she only ended up with four, but we won.”

The next challenge for Scott? The all-time record. That currently sits at 1,093 points.

“It hasn’t settled in yet,” Scott said.

It will. And when it does, Cooksley believe there is plenty more to come from his star senior.

“I think she’s still got more left in the tank this year and it’s going to be exciting to watch,” he said.
