Victims identified in Sunday Kearney shooting
KEARNEY, Neb. (Press Release) - One person was killed Sunday night in a shooting at 823 W 23rd in Kearney. The victim has been identified as Jared M. Shinpaugh, 31, of Lexington. A second victim, identified as Joseph L. Garcia, 29, of Lexington was treated and released at Good Samaritan Hospital for a gun shot wound.
Kearney Police Investigators are currently attempting to locate the residents of 823 West 23rd identified as: Joshua J. Morris, 18, of Kearney and Mariah C. Chamberlin, 19, of Kearney. Both Morris and Chamberlin may have information related to this ongoing homicide investigation. Investigators have information indicating Morris may have been injured during the shooting.
Investigators are also interested in any residential or business surveillance camera footage or information circulating on social media in reference to this case. Investigators have spoken with multiple witnesses and are working to identify the suspects. Once again, the investigation indicates this was an isolated incident and not a random shooting. Additional information will be distributed to the public as available.

The Kearney Police Department, has been assisted by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, UNK Police, Buffalo County Attorney’s Office, and other allied agencies with this investigation.
