HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings St. Cecilia and Superior girls basketball teams entered Tuesday night with a combined record of 26-2 on the season. The Hawkettes were a perfect 14-0 with two wins coming by just three points, and their last time out being a mere 5-point win over Class C1 power Kearney Catholic.

As for Superior, they hadn’t lost since a week before Christmas, which made Tuesday’s match-up all the more inviting.

In the 2nd half, Superior trailed by six, but St. Cecilia’s Shaye Butler padded the lead with a bucket inside. Superior was quick to respond as Shayla Meyer cleaned up an offensive rebound and got a putback to go.

Then came a play of the week candidate from Meyer, who swatted away a St. Cecilia shot, then gathered her own block and took it coast to coast for the bucket.

St. Cecilia ended up showing why they’re still undefeated this year, however, as Bailey Kissinger knocked down a short jumper in reply to the big Meyer play, and the Hawkettes rolled from there for the 13-point win.
