HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - With the cold weather, your technology could be affected; inside most phones are lithium-ion batteries.

When it gets cold the molecules inside that battery begin to shrink. This shrinkage can cause issues throughout your smart phone.

It starts with the battery but it doesn’t stop there; the display and buttons of the phone also can take a hit as a result of the cold temperatures.

“Just make sure your device is always fully charged that’s going to be number one,” Chris Conely with USCellular said. “There are different products out there like portable batteries and things like that if you are on the go. Car chargers are always good too when you’re traveling in the extreme cold.”

Conely also said if possible its always best to keep your phone close to your body for heat.
