Hastings College men’s basketball unable to upset No. 11 Jamestown
HASTINGS, Neb. (Press Release) - The Hastings College Men’s Basketball team could not keep up with the inside presence and three-point shooting of the 11th ranked University of Jamestown’s Jimmies in an 82-52 loss at Lynn Farrell Arena today. Stacked with a distinctive height advantage the Jimmies worked well both in the paint and from beyond the arc. Jamestown shot a blistering 50.9% from the field, 47.6% on three-pointers and was 90% from the free throw line sinking 18 on 20 trips.
Hastings was led in scoring by Senior Zach Rust (SR/Murdock, NE) who had 13 while Junior Karson Gansebom (JR/Bennington, NE) was the only other Bronco in double figures with 11. Junior Dashawn Walker (JR/Harker Heights, TX) pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team.
Jamestown, home of the World’s Largest Buffalo, was led in scoring by Mason Walters. The 6-9 junior from was a giant on the court scoring 25 with seven rebounds. Marc Kjos also had 16 points and seven assists. Brady Burch had nine rebounds to lead the Jimmies.
The Broncos cold shooting continued hitting only 31.8% from the field and not connecting at the free throw line in their limited trips also hitting only 3 of 7 (42.9%). From beyond the arc Hastings connected on 7 of 21 attempts with Rust leading with three makes.
The Broncos continue to seek a 2022 victory in falling to 6-16 overall and 1-11 in the GPAC. The Jimmies improve to 18-5 overall and 8-5 in league.
Hastings will take to the court on Wednesday, January 26th at Concordia with a 7:45 tipoff. They will return home on Saturday, January 29th for a 2 pm tipoff versus Dordt University.
