Hastings College women’s basketball falls late to Jamestown

HASTINGS, Neb. (Press Release) - On the second day of a back to back trip the University of Jamestown Jimmies Women’s Basketball team was not affected by travel or exertion from last night as they defeated the Hastings College Women’s Basketball 68-59 at Lynn Farrell Arena. The Jimmies jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter lead and held the lead throughout. Jamestown shot a remarkable 46.9% from three-point range and 46% for the game. Of their 23 field goals, 15 were from behind the arc.

The Broncos after shooting 42% in last night’s victory over Dakota Wesleyan were held to 35.4% today and were 7-18 from three-point land (38.9%).  Senior Taylor Beacom (SR/Papillion, NE) led the Broncos with 14 points including four three-pointers. Freshmen Riley Clavel (FR/Roy, NM) (11) and Katharine Hamburger (FR/Hastings, NE) (10) were the only other Hastings representatives in double digits. Hamburger also led the team in rebounds with six.

UJ was balanced in scoring with four members in double digits. Macy Savela led the Jimmies with 14. Hannah DeMars was tops on the floor in rebounding with eight.

The Jimmies led by 19 at half after shooting 10-20 from three. The Broncos blazed back in the third quarter cutting the lead to nine at the break. In the fourth, the Broncos got as close as two (61-59) following a three-pointer by Beacom at the 2:22 mark but held scoreless the rest of the contest.

On the day the Broncos played well on defense forcing 22 turnovers but the Jimmies outrebounded the home team 31-24.  Hastings did do a fine job of getting to the free-throw line making 22 trips and sinking 18 (81.8%).

With the loss the Broncos even mark for their season at 10-10 overall and move to 6-8 in the conference. With the season sweep the Jimmies improve to 14-8 overall and 7-7 in the GPAC one game ahead of Hastings.

Hastings College Women’s Basketball team gets back to the regular GPAC schedule facing Concordia at Seward, Nebraska on Wednesday, January 26 with a 6 pm tipoff. They return home on Saturday, January 29 when they host Dordt at 3:45 pm.
