Former GISH baseball star Evans commits to Huskers
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - On the same day that Nebraska baseball was ranked 20th nationally in the Baseball America Preseason Poll, they picked up a commitment from a former Tri-City star.
Grand Island Senior High alum Cole Evans was named the 2018-19 Gatorade Player of the Year in Nebraska before signing to play college baseball at Creighton. An injury at the end of his senior season led to him playing in only eight games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season for the Bluejays before he decided he wanted to take a different path.
That led to him playing DII junior college baseball at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. He hit .365 across 45 games (44 starts) with 13 doubles, 12 homers, 54 RBIs and six steals en route to earning DII NJCAA All-American recognition.
Evans is Nebraska’s 13th commitment in the class.
