GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man who police said tried to kill someone in a used car parking lot is going to prison.
Thomas Franks, 24, was sentenced to 10-18 years in prison for First Degree Assault and four-five years in prison for Attempted Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony. Those sentences will be served concurrently or at the same time. He was also sentenced to two-to-three years in prison for Assaulting a Police Officer; the sentence is to be served after the first two are completed.
He was convicted on those charges in December. Three other charges, Attempted Murder, Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony and Trespassing, were dropped in a plea bargain.
Police arrested Franks for stabbing another man with a kitchen knife at a Grand Island used car parking lot May 24. Witnesses said the crime happened after two people started an argument.
