GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Fans are going to be packing the stands as a favorite event is coming back to Fonner Park in Grand Island.

After two years, the Dinsdale Dasher will be back at Fonner Park this Sunday.

Horses will still be the main event, but it will be the camel and ostrich races later in the afternoon that are set to steal the show.

The event, sponsored by Tom Dinsdale Automotive was a huge success in 2019 and Executive Director for Fonner Park, Chris Kotulak said they expect the same excitement for this year’s event as well. “We expect a similar crowd to what we saw in 2019, which was the largest crowd ever here for the Fonner Park racing event. We’ve had some big crowds over the years at Fonner Park over the years, but the camel and ostrich races brought in the most. We expect over 10,000 people like what we had last time.”

The event is not only fun for people to come out and watch, but it also raises funds and gets more exposure for organizations in the community.

The YWCA of Grand Island is one of the groups benefiting from the fundraising event. “We will have a booth there and we are putting together a prize package for people who are donating. The YWCA is looking forward to participating in this event on Sunday and we hope to see everyone there,” said YWCA board member Kelli Mayhew.

The camel races begin at 3 p.m. with ostrich races taking the stage at 4 p.m.

The concourse side is free and open to the public.
