HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A local judge has fined a Hastings business for a Worker’s Compensation reporting violation.

Noah’s Ark pleaded no contest in Adams County Court to three counts of failure to file a required Worker’s Comp report. Noah’s Ark operates the WR Reserve plant in Hastings and prosecutors charged them with failing to report injuries in order to avoid increased insurance premiums. That meant injured employees could not claim rights under the Worker’s Compensation Act.

Adams County judge Michael Mead fined Noah’s Ark $1,000 for each of the three violations.

The state attorney general’s office said when an employee is injured at work, it must be reported to the Nebraska Worker’s Compensation Court within 10 days.
