Hastings celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
This week honors those who work in the dispatch office at the Hastings Police department
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - This week, Hastings is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators week, to honor the men and women who serve as dispatchers at Hastings PD.
The role of a dispatcher is a critical one, as they’re the first person people talk to when they dial 9-1-1 with an emergency.
“We answer the calls, send help when help is needed, talk people through things on the phone, but a lot of time the dispatchers are the ones that are forgotten,” said Julie Hallett, the Director of Communications for Hastings PD. “It’s good that we have a week to remind everyone that the dispatchers are here to help them.”
Right now, Hastings has six dispatchers, with one training, and two vacancies they’re looking to fill.
