Wood River Elementary partnering with nonprofit to fundraise for new playground
WOOD RIVER, Neb. (KSNB) - Wood River Elementary School is partnering with Wood River Community Centennial Foundation during this year’s Go Big Give event. They plan to raise funds for a new playground.
As of now, kids at the school have had to play in gravel, which has made it tough for kids who may be handicapped to maneuver around the playground and play with their friends.
”I have a friend, and she’s in a wheelchair and she can’t get around in this gravel,” said Avery, a student at the school. “She really wants to play on things that she can play on, but there’s barely anything here that she can play on.”
Principal Kelly Klanecky talked about how big it would be if the community rallied to provide a handicap accessible playground for all kids to enjoy.
“The community of Wood River is so giving,” said Klanecky. “We saw everyone really rally around everyone during the floods a couple of years ago. Not only that, but they’re always looking for a project. We have a beautiful theater, we have a community fitness center, we have lots and lots of different things, different projects that they’ve worked on over the years, and we’d love to be the next one.”
