Ravenna man dies at Hall County Jail
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Ravenna man died Saturday in the Hall County Jail.
Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in reference of an in-custody death just before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The sheriff’s office said it was determined 38-year-old Shane Starkey, of Ravenna, had died while in custody at the Hall County Jail.
Last August, Starkey was arrested on felony child pornography charges following an incident at the Menards in Grand Island. He was accused of taking pictures of minors using the bathroom. He was convicted in March for felony visual depiction of explicit sexual content, possession of child pornography, and for viewing a person in a state of undress. Court records indicate Starkey failed to appear for sentencing in April. He was arrested on a bench warrant May 4.
The sheriff’s office did not disclose how Starkey died. As with all in-custody deaths, and per Nebraska Statue, this incident will be reviewed by a grand jury after completion of the investigation.
This investigation is ongoing and is being processed by South Central Area Law Enforcement Services (S.C.A.L.E.S.).
