HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Clouds linger over Eastern Nebraska this morning with plenty of sunshine for areas west of highway 281. Those clouds that remain will slowly clear out as the day goes on. Look for high temperatures from the mid 70s northwest to the mid/upper 80s southeast. Winds will be a bit breezy out of the northeast at 10 to 20 mph. Overnight, a warm front will be lifting north into the area. This will bring a few extra clouds to the area overnight into tomorrow morning. There is also a chance of a stray shower or thunderstorms early Wednesday morning. Lows will range from the lower 50s northwest to the mid 60s southeast.

Get ready for more heat and wind on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, south winds will pick up 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Highs will reach the upper 80s and low to mid 90s. There is also going to be more of a humid feel as dew points climb. Some isolated thunderstorms may fire up in the afternoon and evening hours. Most of this should be rather isolated, so I don’t expect too many to pick up much rain. Some severe weather will be possible with damaging wind gusts and perhaps some large hail. Wednesday night will remain mild and breezy with continued south winds. Lows Wednesday night will be in the mid to upper 60s and lower 70s. Thursday will be hot and windy again with south winds will get up to 20 to 30 mph with some gusts to 45 mph. Highs will reach the upper 80s and low to mid 90s again, but will be cooler just west of the Local4 viewing area as a cold front approaches. That cold front could help fire up showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with more into the evening. Better chances will be across Central to Eastern Nebraska with a fairly low chance to the west. This will feature a better chance for some severe thunderstorms. Large hail and damaging winds will again be a threat, but isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The threat for severe thunderstorms looks to be greater as you go to the northeast in our area.

Behind the cold front, we’ll have some nice weather on Friday. Skies will become mostly sunny and winds won’t be terribly strong. Look for highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Saturday will be a little cooler and breezy with highs in the 70s for the most part (coolest north). Sunday will be back similar to Friday with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. The weekend features a slight chance of thunderstorms each day with the slightly better chance Saturday. Temperatures will start to come back up next week. Highs on Monday will be back up into the 80s with the warmest temperatures southwest. Most of next week looks like temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s.
