HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Republican voters in Adams County are getting the chance to choose who they want to see as the next sheriff.

First round results dropped around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, showing Sheriff Rust with the early lead with 972 votes ahead of Hessler’s 694 votes.

The winner of this race will likely be the next sheriff as there were no Democratic candidates who filed to run for this position.

The unofficial final results came down late Tuesday night, showing Sheriff John Rust receiving a total of 3,071 votes against Brian Hessler’s 2,258. He will be moving to November and likely will be the sheriff, though there’s the option for write-in candidates.

“I’m very excited with the outcome of the election,” Sheriff Rust told Local4 News. “I want to thank the citizens of Adams County for their support and I’m looking forward to moving forward on the foundation we’ve built to continue to improve the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and to serve the citizens of Adams County.”
