OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - All of the 2022 State track and field champions have been crowned for Classes A and B. As attentions turn toward Classes C and D on Thursday and Friday, Local4 is reflecting on which area athletes took home gold medals in the first two days.

At the beginning of the outdoor high school track and field season, Aurora’s Gage Griffith vowed to win the State championship in both shot put and discus. The Wyoming commit achieved those goals at the State tournament on Wednesday and Thursday.

Griffith claimed gold in the shot put with a 57′4.5″ throw, while his discus toss of 168′11″ earned him a State title on Thursday.

“It means a lot,” Griffith said. “A lot of time, a lot of praying and a lot of work put into those goals, so it feels good. I’m proud to go out on top. Now it’s just on to college and doing the same thing there.”
