OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - The first day of the 2022 State Track and Field championships for Classes C and D is in the books. With attentions turning toward the end of the tournament Saturday with the remaining events for those classes, Local4 is reflecting on which area athletes took home gold medals Friday.

The Axtell quad of Luc Lopez, Keyton Cole, Cooper Miller and Calvin Johnson secured the gold medal for the Wildcats in a time of 8:30.27, which beat out second place Falls City Sacred Heart’s time of 8:31.89.

“It is an amazing feeling,” Cole said. “It’s my first year coming to State and I knew we had a chance to get first. And we just wanted to go for our school record, and we pushed for it, and if we got first, we got first.”
