OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - The first day of the 2022 State Track and Field championships for Classes C and D is in the books. With attentions turning toward the end of the tournament Saturday with the remaining events for those classes, Local4 is reflecting on which area athletes took home gold medals Friday.

In the Class D boys high jump, Shelton’s Zach Myers won the State title with a leap of 6-4. He is the first bulldog to win a gold medal at the tournament since 2001, according to the school’s track and field Twitter page.

“To be honest, this is my first year doing high jump,” Myers said. “I really haven’t done track in my high school career, and it feels good to end a State champion. [I was told] to get it on my first attempt, and that I would get it, so I just listened to him and said a little prayer before it happened.”
