Holiday weekend takes on a summer-like feel
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - It was a bright, sun-filled day across most of the state today with clouds still trying to escape the far eastern counties. Thursday evening should be very pleasant with late evening temperatures still near 60 degrees before falling into the low 50s for morning temps on Friday. Under sunny skies, we’ll tack on another 10 to 15 degrees over Thursday’s highs, as Friday afternoon temps will top out in the mid to upper 80s in the central areas, and lower 90s in the southwest with low 80s east.
Summer-like heat will build into the area both Saturday and Sunday. Upper 80s to lower 90s can be expected Saturday with the 90 degree heat expanding farther east on Sunday.
The holiday week will also become somewhat unstable during the evening hours. Storms will develop over the Sandhills and track east on Saturday evening. If a line forms its possible there could be strong winds and hail associated with a few of the storms.
On Sunday, storms will start out over Northern Nebraska during the afternoon, then develop along a stationary front Sunday evening in the Tri-Cities and areas north, bringing a risk for damaging winds and hail for central into northeastern counties. Storms could linger into Monday morning followed by an afternoon lull, with storms redeveloping Monday evening. Highs on Monday will be in the upper 80s to low 90s before the front begins to move allowing colder air to sweep the region. By Wednesday highs will be in the mid to upper 60s with some 70s east.
