HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Good Sunday evening! Heads up this evening across central and northern areas of the viewing area as there is the risk of severe storms for this evening between 6pm and 11pm. There is a marginal risk for severe weather in the southern parts of the state. That risk increases as you head north of the Tri-cities with the greatest risk being for areas north of highway 22. The primary threats with any storms that go severe will be large hail up to 2 inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. The tornado threat is very low for areas south but increases as you head north where you could see a few isolated tornadoes. The short term models are suggesting that all the activity will stay west and north of the Tri-cities this evening. Can’t rule out a rogue storm firing up to the southwest of the Tri-cities later though. Any storms that do form this evening will race off the northeast at 35 to 45 mph.

The severe weather threat pushes east on Memorial Day with the slight risk for severe storms over the eastern areas of the state along the cold front as it pushes eastward. The Tri-cities will still have a marginal risk for strong to severe storms tomorrow afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny tomorrow afternoon with highs ranging from the upper 80s and low 90s east ahead of the cold front, mid to upper 70s central and low 50s out west well behind the front. The weather dries out for Tuesday as the front finally moves out of the region and high pressure moves in. Highs on Tuesday ranging from the low 80s southeast to upper 50s and low 60s northwest. Our next systems moves in Wednesday with a decent chance for showers and thunderstorms. Much cooler as well with highs in the mid 60s under partly sunny skies. Another break from rain chances Thursday with highs in the 70s. More rain chances at the end of the week and into next weekend with day time highs in the mid to upper 70s Friday through Sunday.
