KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Students at the Central Community College-Kearney Center now have a unique opportunity: living on another school’s campus.

CCC-Kearney and the University of Nebraska at Kearney have entered a partnership allowing full-time students 25 or younger at CCC-Kearney to live in select UNK dorms. Administrator Dr. Kelly Christensen says conversations started after a community meeting a few months ago.

“By bringing these two institutions together and UNK being willing to share their resources with us and our students, just made it a perfect partnership,” Christensen said.

Christensen says the partnership helps solve a problem for the CCC-Kearney campus, which doesn’t offer student housing. Now, local students have an option outside of their childhood home and out-of-town students don’t have to commit to a year-long lease.

“There’s no commitment to a summer housing arrangement,” Christensen said. “They can go back home and work at home during the summer.”

CCC-Kearney students can also opt into UNK services like counseling, student events, wellness center and student parking.

Christensen says the partnership is an effort to meet student’s needs.

“That’s really what we’re looking to accomplish, is help our students be successful and in turn, help our community be successful,” Christensen said.

CCC-Kearney hopes to have around 15 students living at UNK this fall. They can live in Randall/Mantor hall or Centennial Towers.
