Area golfers advance to quarterfinals of Nebraska Match Play
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Both the Round of 32 and 16 of the 55th Nebraska Match Play golf tournament came to a close at Riverside Country Club in Grand Island Wednesday.
Several athletes are moving on to the fourth day of the tournament after impressive showings in the elimination round.
Creighton’s Cade McCallum, an alum of Grand Island Senior High, won his Round of 32 matchup against Doniphan-Trumbull’s Ethan Smith 1 up. McCallum then defeated former NFL running back Danny Woodhead of Elkhorn 3 & 1 to move on.
Nebraska’s Reed Malleck, an alum of York High, defeated Papillion’s James Olson 4 & 3 before bouncing Omaha’s Porter Topp 4 & 2 in the Round of 16.
Another Husker, Aurora alum Caleb Badura, defeated Southeast Community College’s Andrew Paquette 3 & 1 in the Round of 32 before defeating Bellevue University’s Alex Zillig 1 up in a 19-hole playoff.
The quarterfinals begin Thursday with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m.
