GRAND ISLAND, HASTINGS, KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Fourth of July is getting closer and closer. Here’s what you need to know about fireworks rules in the Tri-Cities.

Vendors in Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney will be allowed to sell fireworks from June 28 through July 4. There are some variations about local times and places:

GRAND ISLAND

Fireworks can be sold and used during these times:

  • June 28 through July 2 – 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • July 3 – 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • July 4 – 8:00 a.m. to midnight

HASTINGS

Fireworks can be sold and used during these times:

  • June 28 – July 2 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • July 3-4 from 10 a.m. to midnight

In Hastings, fireworks may not be used on any public street, alley, sidewalk, park or other property owned by the City of Hastings without a special permit issued by Hastings Fire and Rescue. Fireworks may not be thrown from or into any motor vehicle. Sky lanterns or any other free-floating device which includes a flame or heating device used as a lifting mechanism are prohibited.

KEARNEY:

Fireworks can be sold and used during these times.

  • 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. - June 28 through July 2
  • 8:00 a.m. to midnight - July 3 and July 4
  • •Wire sparklers and sky lanterns are prohibited from being

In Kearney, Wire sparklers and sky lanterns are prohibited from being sold, purchased, or discharged.

It is prohibited to:

  • Light fireworks upon the premises where consumer fireworks are sold.
  • Throw firecrackers, fireworks, or any object which explodes: from, at, or into vehicles, onto any street, highway, or sidewalk, at or near any person, into any building, into or at any group of persons, discharge any consumer firework in any City park.

All public streets and roadways in Kearney must remain clear to through traffic at all times. Streets and roadways cannot be blocked for neighborhood fireworks displays.
