GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the 55th Nebraska Match Play golf tournament were played Thursday at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island.

After starting pool play with eight players in the running, there are only two that remain: Nebraska men’s golf junior and York alum Reed Malleck; and Creighton alum Johnny Spellerberg out of Bennington.

Malleck defeated Grand Island Senior High’s Cade McCallum — who defeated tournament No. 1-seed Danny Woodhead in the Round of 16 Wednesday — 1 up in the quarterfinal round. He then defeated Omaha’s Matthew Quandt 3 & 1 in the semifinals, which set up a championship match with Spellerberg.

Meanwhile, Aurora alum and Nebraska’s Caleb Badura lost 1 up to Spellerberg in the quarterfinals.
