RAVENNA, Neb. (KSNB) - For the first time in the 5-year history of Spencer vs. the Pros, I entered the 8th hole of the series with a lead at 1-under par, but the pros sat just a shot back at even par.

In hopes of keeping my lead and adding even more history to the series, I paid a visit to Ravenna Golf Club for the first time ever. I caught up with board member Michael Bauer as we took aim at the Par-4, 6th Hole of RGC.

Bauer had honors as the hosting board member, and sent a nice tee shot down the left side of the fairway. It had enough steam on it that it ended up rolling into the left rough near the tree line, but it was fortunately in no real danger.

I then followed up with a solid tee shot of my own. Mine tracked right down the center of the fairway, but because the fairway was so sloped, it still rolled the ball to the right edge of the fairway.

Bauer was a bit further down the hole than I was, so I hit my approach shot first, and it was one of my better hits of the year. I was able to land the ball just before the green from 170 yards out and it rolled to just 7-feet away from the pin.

With the pressure on him, Bauer also hit a solid shot, but it came up just short of the green. Fortunately, he had a good angle coming down toward the green and was able to put it within ten feet and he drained his putt to save par from there.

This left me with a rare opportunity to extend my lead, and I didn’t waste it as I was able to roll it in from seven feet out for my second birdie of the summer, which also pushed my lead in the series to two shots!

Next week, I’ll be making my return to Hastings and Lochland Country Club as Assistant Golf Pro Ryan Douglas and I tee it up on the Par-5, 7th Hole. Join us then!
