Nebraska Greats Golf Jamboree Banquet brings Huskers to Grand Island
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Nebraska Greats Golf Jamboree Banquet prefacing the Tom Dinsdale Automotive Nebraska Greats Golf Classic took place at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island Thursday.
Famed former college athletes came out in support of the NGF’s event, but it was not exclusive to athletes from the past. The special guests were labeled as “Jason Peter and friends.” Those friends happened to be three current Nebraska football players: Junior defensive lineman Garrett Nelson; sophomore wide receiver Alante Brown; and sophomore defensive back Marques Buford Jr.
Each said they cherished the opportunity to be a part of the event, and to come to Grand Island to do so.
“I really like the cause that they’re doing,” Nelson said. “Really great message, really great opportunity for us to show our faces as current players and support what these guys are doing for former players from all colleges throughout Nebraska. Show support for what they’re doing and their cause that they have.”
Nelson is from Scottsbluff and is no stranger to the central Nebraska area. However, Brown and Buford Jr. are from out of state and said they enjoyed interacting with fans outside of Lincoln.
“Obviously, Nebraska fans cover more than just Lincoln, Nebraska,” Buford Jr. said. “It’s all over Nebraska, into Iowa and all the states that are bordering, so it’s a great time to be able to come around and get a different vibe with different types of fans that I don’t usually get a chance to see as often.”
“Getting outside of Lincoln and just getting more familiar with outside faces and getting more knowledge from the outside world of Nebraska, just showing that we support as Huskers,” Brown added.
