The Heart’s Desire: New bookstore and art studio to open in downtown Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - “The Heart’s Desire” is a new business opening soon in downtown Hastings. It will be a bookstore and an art studio wrapped into one.

Owner Dacia Wright told Local4 News, in the beginning, she wasn’t planning on opening a business.

“Originally I went to Hastings College to be an art teacher, but the more I was in the classroom, the more I learned about the standards we had to teach, to the less, I actually wanted to be a teacher,” said Wright.

Instead, she decided to create a spot where people of all ages could visit, learn and express themselves creatively.

Wright said she chose to open up The Heart’s Desire in Hastings because it is her hometown.

“We haven’t had a book store for three years now, so I know a lot of people definitely miss having a bookstore, and I know people have already said that this would be the place for them to go because they love books,” Wright noted. “They love getting books, like, new or used, they’re excited about that, and I’m excited to be able to provide that. So, I just hope its like a safe space for people to be creative and read.”

She will be offering a variety of art classes such as painting, drawing, pottery and will offer private classes for special events.

The store’s motto is: “Adventure into knowledge and creativity”.

The Heart’s Desire is located at 721 W 1st St. and doors will officially open to customers at 10 a.m. August 2. The ribbon cutting will be held at 11:45 a.m. opening day.
