Central Nebraska Regional Airport has eyes on upgrading

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Central Nebraska Regional Airport is looking to make substantial upgrades within the next year. They are planning to add canopy covers over their parking ticket system to increase its shelf life. Along with that canopies will be providing cover for something Central Nebraska flyers have wanted for quite some time.

“We’ll have covered parking just north of the terminal, which we will call Premier Parking. It will be a smaller area with just forty-four stalls,” said Mike Olson, Executive Director of Central Nebraska Regional Airport.

The airport plans on adding an air show next summer in June and making some runway upgrades. They want to add LED lights for taxis and the runway, along with new signage to ensure safer awareness for the pilots.

“Starting Aug. 16, next month, American Airlines will be upgrading or I should say up gagging, which means they are bring bigger aircraft in for their Dallas/ Fort Worth round trip on a daily basis,” said Olson.

American Airlines will be sending their The hope is that with larger flights, an option to fly first class, and the other bells and whistles coming to Grand Island more people will be attracted to flying into Central Nebraska. Olson efforts doesn’t end there. If we can get out inflation, more destinations may become a possibility.

“That’s something that I’m always exploring. Right now it’s real tough with airline pilot shortages, high fuel prices, and gate space at airports at some of the bigger airports that we may be interested in.”
